EVERLY – The Graettinger/Terril baseball team came up short of its first win of he season with an 11-10 loss to Clay Central-Everly on Wednesday.

“This game went right down to the last pitch,” said G/T coach Corey Boe. “Our team played really good tonight against a good team. They just had a couple balls drop in that we couldn’t get to.”

Boe said the Knights had their best hitting game with 13 on the night.

Starting pitcher Taylor Harris left after 1/13 innings because of a collision with the catcher that left him with a mild concussion. He had one strikeout with three unearned runs scoring.

Tyler Dalen stepped in and pitched three innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs with one strikeout.

After the Knights took the lead in the fifth, Cody Dyhrkopp took his turn on the mound, but bloop hits allowed CC-E to rally. Dyhrkopp pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs with one strikeout.

“Overall we played great, but with a young team comes mistakes,” said Boe. “Those are learning points for our kids and we have to build on them.”

At the plate, Dyhrkopp was 2-4 with a grand slam home run, four RBIs and scored four times.

Dalton Park was 2-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs. Mitch Girres was 3-5 with two RBI. Blaze Alesch was 2-5 with two RBI. Colin Leiting was 2-3 with an RBI and a run; Beau Craig was 2-4 with a double and a run. Jeremiah Andrews walked twice and scored twice.

The knights were on the road against Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka on Thursday. The team is at Lake Park on Monday.
