Indians unable to hang on

SPIRIT LAKE – Taking a 10-8 lead into the seventh inning, Spirit Lake couldn’t shut the door on Lakes Conference rival Spencer. The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the inning and the Indians only answered with one in a 12-11 loss on Wednesday.

Spirit Lake out-hit Spencer 16-8, but the Indians also had four defensive errors and the pitchers gave up six walks.

The Tigers had four errors and gave up two walks.

Spirit Lake had a 7-0 lead after two innings.

Mitch Peschon started on the mound and went 2 2/3 innings giving up five runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. Those five runs were all scored in the third.

Derrick Miner stepped in to get out of the inning, but the Tigers tied the game at 7-7.

Miner went 3 2/3 innings, giving two runs on six hits, but only two of those runs were earned. He struck out five batters and walked five. Ethan Carlson stepped in for the final 2/3 innings and gave up one run on one hit with one strikeout.

At the plate, Peschon was 4-4 with four RBI. Miner and Carlson each went 3-5 while Nik Erickson was 2-5 with an RBI.

Ryan Jennings, Tyler Dean, Paul Brown and Zubeen Azari all went 1-4. Jennings and Brown each had an RBI. Tyler Johnson had two RBI.
