Zalabowski shuts down Spirit Lake
SPIRIT LAKE – The Spirit Lake baseball team stayed close to Class 2A No. 5 Okoboji, but Pioneer ace Ray Zalabowski shut the Indians down over the last 2 2/3 innings.
Zalabowski had seven strikeouts including two of the last three in the seventh as Okoboji (8-2) won 9-6.
The Indians’ Taylor Acton had his first varsity start. He went 6 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits with 11 walks and no strikeouts. Derrick Miner closed out the game, facing three batters while giving up a hit and a walk.
The Indians had just five hits and committed no errors.
Okoboji had eight hits and committed five errors.
Spirit Lake (3-5) is in action today against Estherville Lincoln Central in Estherville.
