Midgets struggle at Storm Lake
STORM LAKE – The Estherville Lincoln Central baseball team out-hit Storm Lake 9-6, but the Midgets gave up a couple too many walks and errors and struck out too many times with runners in scoring position.
The host Tornadoes did better in those areas as they won 4-2.
“Storm Lake’s Ben Seaman threw a nice game, but mentally, I didn’t think we had good at-bats with runners on base,” said ELC coach Chuck Fandel.
Seaman struck out ELC batters 11 times. That included three strikeouts in the sixth inning. ELC had runners on second and third with no outs when Seaman rung up three straight batters.
At the plate, Alex Arends and Scott Schmidt each went 2-3. Schmidt had a double.
Cody Prather, Justin Doyle, Joel Kazmerzak, and Marcus Christensen all went 1-3. Prather had an RBI and Christensen had a double. Keith Fandel was 1-4.
He took the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts and six walks.
ELC (10-5) is home today with a make-up game against Spirit Lake.
