Tornadoes sweep past ELC

STORM LAKE – It just wasn’t Estherville Lincoln Central’s night on Wednesday as the softball team returned to action.

Host Storm Lake took advantage and scored three runs in the first and three runs in the third for a 6-2 victory.

ELC had few highlights, but Maggie Asman did hit her second home run, a solo shot, in the second inning.

The Midgettes Ashley Weston took advantage of two Storm Lake throwing errors to score on her hit in the third to cut the deficit to one, 3-2.

ELC struggled in the bottom of the inning though as the Tornadoes plated three more runs.

Kendall Bosch took the loss as she gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

ELC had just four hits.

Maggie Haugen was 2-3 with a double and a triple. Asman was 1-3 with the home run and Taylar Jacobson was 1-3.

ELC (11-4, 6-2) is home with a doubleheader against Bishop Heelan today.

Junior varsity

The Estherville Lincoln Central Junior Varsity softball team improved to 9-0 by pounding out 22 hits in a 15-1 win over Storm Lake Wednesday.

Melissa Gjerde struck out seven batters and gave up five hits with no walks in six innings of work for the win.

At the plate, Sadie Winter was 3-3 with two triples, two runs and two RBI; Taylor Lago was 4-5 with two RBIS and two runs; Tessa Bernholtz was 2-4 with two runs and four RBI; Jessica Phillips was 3-4 with two runs and an RBI and Allie Sievert was 3-4 with two runs and two RBI.
