Spirit Lake falls to top-rated Cherokee

CHEROKEE – The Spirit Lake baseball team fell behind early against Class 2A No. 1 Cherokee and couldn’t muster the hits to rally in a 4-1 loss on Wednesday.

The Braves scored three runs in the first inning. The Indians came back with a run in the second on an RBI single by Paul Brown to score Ethan Carlson.

But Spirit Lake had just three hits and and combined to strike out 12 times on the night to Cherokee starter Matt Koch, who went six innings, and Cody Ege.

Derrick Miner pitched six innings for the Indians, giving up four runs on nin hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Brown was 1-2 while Miner and Carlson each went 1-3.

Spirit Lake is home with Sheldon today.

The Spirit Lake softball team split a doubleheader with the Braves, winning game one 17-14 and losing the second game 10-7.
