By Staff | Jun 23, 2009

ARMSTRONG – It doesn’t seem to matter what the records are, but the Graettinger/Terril and Armstrong-Ringsted softball teams seem to keep their games close.

On Monday, the two teams needed an extra inning when A-R winning 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the eighth.

After a 1-3 start-the Mustangs’ last loss was to the Knights-A-R had now won eight in a row.

A-R pitcher Amy Leach had a usual night for her with 17 strikeouts and one walk while giving up five hits in the win.

G/T’s Malorie Girres gave up eight hits while striking out five batters and walking three.

The Mustangs were the first on the scoreboard as Rosie Cheever singled and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Leach before scoring on a passed ball.

In the fourth, Leach singled, stole second and scored on a single by Harley Lindell.

The Knights rallied with two runs in the sixth as Dakota Hovinga reached base and Amanda Oleson singled. The pair had a double steal to advance to second and third. Passed balls allowed both runs to score.

In the bottom of the eighth, Taylor Grabinoski reached on an error and Emily Irmiter singled. A passed ball allowed the runners to advance and Lindell again delivered the key hit to score the game-winning run.

Lindell was 2-4 while Irmiter and Leach both went 2-3. Jasmine Clausen was 1-2 and Cheever was 1-4.

A-R (9-3) is at Spirit Lake today.
