Indians split at Spencer

SPENCER – The Spirit Lake softball team came away from the first day of the Spencer Tournament with a split on Friday.

The Indians were shut out in a 7-0 loss to Class 3A No. 3 Bishop Heelan. The Crusaders’ record in Thursday’s new rating was 23-0.

The Indians fared better in the second game with Paige Krause driving in Caila Jones for the winning run in a 4-3 victory over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.

Bishop Heelan Jordan Johnson pitched a no-hitter while striking out 15 Spirit Lake batters in the first game. She gave up just one walk.

Krause pitched for the Indians, giving up seven runs on six hits with 11 walks and two strikeouts.

Against MMC, Cara Vale pitched game two for the Indians. She gave up three runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Allie Gerking went 2-2 with two RBI, Emily Mercer was 1-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Megan Ingvall and Amanda Bueltel both were 1-2 while Krause was 1-4.

Spirit Lake continues play at the Spencer Tournament today.
