Knights pick up pair of wins at Okoboji
GRAETTINGER – Graettinger/Terril had a rough start weekend, but ended on a positive note, with two wins at the Okoboji Tournament.
In the final game of the tourney, the Knights rallied from a 7-2 deficit in its final game of the Okoboji Tournament for a 9-7 win over MOC-Floyd Valley.
The weekend started on Friday against Class 1A No. 6 North Sentral Kossuth. The Eagles came ready to play and won 13-1 in four innings.
The Knights had two hits. Dakota Hovinga and Maddy Schany each went 1-2. Hovinga’s hit was a double.
Malorie Girres took the loss, giving up 11 hits while striking out one batter and walking four.
“They have some real power hitters,” said G/T coach Stephanie Hanson.
On Saturday, the Knights’ first game of the day was against a fellow Cornbelt Conference team in Clay Central Everly.
G/T pounded out 10 hits in the 8-2 victory.
Tasha Neilson was 3-4 with an RBI, Dakota Hovinga was 2-4 with a double and four RBI, Theresa Petersen was 2-4, Morgan Matthews and Lindsay Flaharty both went 1-3 and Amanda Oleson was 1-4.
Girres earned the win giving up two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Knights’ rally against MOC-Floyd Valley started in the bottom of the sixth. G/T was helped by a hit batter and a walk followed by three consecutive singles up the middle by Petersen, Neilson and Schany. Abases-clearing double by Nikki Brown completed the rally.
Brown was 2-4 with three RBI. Petersen was 1-3 with two RBI and Schany was 1-4 with an RBI. Hovinga and Morgan Matthews each went 1-2 while Oleson and Neilson were 1-3.
G/T (10-5) is on the road against Clay Central-Everly on Wednesday.
