ELC defeats 1A No. 1 Woodbury Central at tourney

STORM LAKE – Estherville Lincoln Central defeated its first two opponents before rain halted the Storm Lake Tournament on Friday.

The Midgettes had 27 hits in two games, beating Sioux City North 7-2 and Class 1A No. 1 Woodbury Central 11-2. ELC was tied 5-5 with Class 1A No. 2 Newell-Fonda when the game was called.

“We hit the ball up and down the lineup and I’m pleased with how the bats are coming around,” said ELC coach Megan Anderson.

Brooke Egeland pitched seven innings againsg Sioux City North giving up two runs (both unearned) on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

At theplate, Caitlyn Swisher was 2-3, Sadie Winter was 2-4 with an RBI and a triple, Emily Kirchner was 2-4 with two RBI and a triple, Maggie Haugen was 2-4 with two RBI and a double and Taylar Jacobson and Ashley Weston each were 1-3 with an RBI.

Against Woodbury Central ELC jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 1 1/2 innings and added five insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Kendall Bosch earned the win on the mound. She gave up two runs (both earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

At thepate, Bosch was 3-4 with four RBI and a double, Jacobson was 3-5 with an RBI and a double, Weston was 2-4 with three RBI and a double, Swisher was 2-4 with an RBI and a double, Winter was 2-5 with an RBI and a double, Maggie Asman was 2-4, Maggie Haugen was 1-3 and Kirchner was 1-4 with an RBI.
