Knights survive first round
ARMSTRONG – Graettinger/Terril may have been a little over-confident against a Ruthven-Ayrshire team which only had one win this season.
However, the Knights were able to overcome a sluggish night at the plate with good defense in the 3-0 first-round win over the Raiders.
“We weren’t patient at the plate at all,” said G/T coach Stephanie Hanson.
The Knights scored all three runs in the third inning.
Lindsay Flaharty led off with a single up the middle followed by a hit from Dakota Hovinga. Flaharty scored when Amanda Oleson grounded out to the shortstop.
Theresa Petersen drew a walk and continued on to second, surprising the Raiders. The pitcher overthrew the play at second allowing Hovinga to score and Petersen to go to third. Petersen scored when Maddy Schany reached on an error.
At the plate, Hovinga was 1-1 while Morgan Mathews, Flaharty and Malorie Girres all went 1-2.
Girres earned the win on the mound. She gave up eight hits while striking out one and walking three batters.
G/T travels to Spencer on Friday to play Harris-Lake Park.
