Class 1A Regional Softball: Eagles take down Knights

SWEA CITY – Graettinger/Terril’s second meeting with North Sentral Kossuth didn’t go much better than the first.

The Eagles defeated the Knights 13-1 on June 26.

On Monday, NSK ended Graettinger/Terril’s season winning 10-1 in a Class 1A Regional Quarterfinal.

The Eagles (26-6) came out swinging, scoring four runs on six hits in the bottom of the first inning.

The Knights had a chance to score in the second inning as Maddy Schany hit a one-out single. Nikki Brown then hit a come-backer to NSK pitcher Shayna Geitzenauer who tried to get Schany at second. However the throw was too late.

The runners moved to second and third when Malorie Girres grounded out to second base, but the threat was ended as Morgan Matthews struck out.

G/T came up with a key defensive play in the bottom of the inning as No. 9 batter Sara Johnson tried to stretch a double into a triple. She was thrown out on the relay from centerfielder Lindsay Flaharty to shortstop Theresa Petersen to third baseman Dakota Hovinga.

The Eagles came up with there straight one-out singles in the third inning to plate another run.

G/T finally got on the scoreboard when Tasha
