BANCROFT – Meeting on the baseball diamond for the fourth time this season, there were no secrets between Cornbelt Conference rivals Armstrong-Ringsted and Graettinger/Terril.

The Mustangs (9-14) won two of the three meetings and improved their average to .750 with an 11-1, six-inning win in the first game of Class 1A District Baseball on Tuesday.

A-R had 10 hits off Knight pitching while G/T came up with just two hits on the night against Spencer Clausen.

Clausen struck out two batters and walked four and also had solid defense behind with the game ending on a double play.

“Spencer’s been pitching well of late,” said A-R coach Ryan Luedtke. “We played good defense and it was nice to see some hard hits.”

First-year coach G/T Corey Boe said his young team has made great strides this season. The Knights (3-12) lose two seniors from the team-second baseman Dalton Park and designated hitter Tanner Gunderson.

“As young as we are, the kids came a long way from that first practice,” Boe said. “Next year we’ll be even better with a year under our belt and expect more from them.”

A-R used aggressive base running to score its first two runs in the top of the first.

Tanner LaBore led off the game with a bunt single and stole second. He then scored when Craig Tigges grounded out to third base.

Ridge Christiansen then drew a walk, stole second base. While stealing third, a wild pitch got past catcher Beau Craig and Christiansen continued home.

With two outs in the second inning, A-R took advantage of a pair of Knight miscues. LaBore reached on an error and stole third base. Tigges drew a walk and stole second. Christiansen stepped in for an RBI single and two runs scored when Brett Thackery reached on an error.

The Knights scored their only run in the bottom of the inning. Blaze Alesch reached on an error and Colin Leiting drew a walk. Beau Craig hit a single just inside the right field line, but didn’t realize Alesch hadn’t go home and continued to second. With Leiting stuck between second and third, Alesch took off for home and was tagged. However Leiting score moments later on a passed ball.

A-R added another run in the fourth. Dylan Moore drawing a walk and stealing both second and third base. Dylan Looft drew a walk to put runners at the corners. Evan Hagebock hit a grounder to second base. G/T took the force out at second as Moore came home.

A four-run fifth inning was highlighted by an RBI single by Travis Hantelman and a bases-clearing two-out double by Thackery as A-R led 10-1.

The final run scored in the top of the sixth. Looft led off with a single and stole second. Hagebock singled and then stole second base. The Knights tried to throw Hagebock out and Looft scored on the play as the return throw home wasn’t in time.

At the plate for A-R, Thackery was 3-4 with five RBI. Hagebock and Hantelman each wee 2-4 with an RBI, Christiansen and Looft were 1-3 and LaBore was 1-5.

Tyler Dalen started on the mound for the Knights. He went 2 2/3 innings, facing 18 batters while giving up four hits with three strikeouts and five walks.

Cody Dyhrkopp closed out the game giving up six hits with four strikeouts.

At the plate for the Knights, Dyhrkopp was 1-3 and Craig was 1-2.
