Tops in the state
The Iowa Girls Coaches Association released the all-state softball teams for 2009.
Four area players were honored at some level.
Armstrong-Ringsted’s Amy Leach was named to the Class 1A All-State Third Team. The senior pitcher posted a 15-7 record with a 0.64 earned run average while striking out 284 batters. She also posted a .386 batting average.
Three Estherville Lincoln Central players earned Class 3A All-State Honorable Mention.
There were senior infielder Maggie Asman, freshman pitcher Kendall Bosch and eight-grade infielder Emily Kirchner.
Asman finished the season with a .228 batting average, but she drew a team-high 16 walks and was hit by a pitch six times which improves her on base percentage to .396. She led the team in home runs with four and also had three doubles. Defensively, she had 42 put outs with 179 assists with just three errors for a fielding percentage of .987.
Bosch pitched 165 innings giving up 36 earned runs for an ERA of 1.53. She had a 16-8 record with one save. She struck out 186 batters gave up 125 hits and 13 walks with one hit batter. Opponents batted .197 against her.
Kirchner led the team at the plate with a .362 batting average. She also had a team-high 38 hits, 25 RBI and five doubles along with two triples, two home runs and 21 stolen bases.
