Knights excited to start ‘09 season
GRAETTINGER – A year ago, the Graettinger/Terril football team jumped right into its first 8-player football game and showed its ability to win against anybody in the season opener against Aurelia.
The Knights beat the Bulldogs 40-38 and went on to a 6-4 record in the district and earned a playoff appearance.
The Bulldogs ended with a 5-4 record and missed the playoffs losing the tiebreaker for the final playoff spot in District 1 to Remsen St. Mary’s.
G/T coach Karlton Hector said Aurelia doesn’t return as much.
“I think they only have about 20 guys out and return about five letterwinners,” he said.
The Knights return nine letterwinners who are ready to go.
“We’re anxious to get the season under way and see what we have,” said Hector. “We have some good athletes. We need to see if we can play a mentally good game.
“We expect to seem some good things and do well,” he added.
Hector said he and the coaching staff have talked about th Knight’s potential all week.
“But it doesn’t always translate in to wins,” he said.
The Knights’ key returners include Cody Dyhrkopp, who will play quarterback and safety for the third straight year.
Also returning in the backfield is Drew Skattebo, who was the Knights’ second-leading rusher a year ago.
Michael Jensen and Taylor Harris are also returning starters.
Tonight’s game is Parents Night for the Knights also. Game time is 7 p.m.
