Knights, Rockets get ready for third meeting
GRAETTINGER – A year ago, Graettinger/Terril was a team just getting used to 8-Man Football.
Facing Remsen-Union in the second week, the Knights found a way to win 16-8. The two teams met again in the substate game with the Rockets avenging the loss 29-22. Remsen-Union lost to Armstrong-Ringsted in the first round 68-37 to Armstrong-Ringsted and finished the season with an 8-3 record.
The two teams’ third meeting is tonight in Remsen.
“They return some quality guys and good size,” said G/T coach Karlton Hector. “They also have a balance on offense with the run and the pass.”
The Rockets return a pre-season all-state quarterback in Josh Bohnenkamp.
“He throws a nice ball and runs well too,” said Hector.
But the Knights also have to keep an eye on junior tailback Craig Alesch.
“Defensively we’ll definitely have to know where Alesch is. They move him around,” said hector. “We need to play solid team defense and get a pass rush.”
The Knights’ offense had 319 yards against Aurelia last week. Hector doesn’t expect Remsen-Union to be as easy.
“They have good size in the defensive line and like to bring the linebackers quit a bit,” he said. “It should be another closely contested ball game, but we should be able to run the ball effectively if we don’t hurt ourselves with mistakes.”
