Knights pull away from Rockets
REMSEN – Since Graettinger/Terril’s two meetings with Remsen-Union in 2008 were both decided by a touchdown, the Knights expected another close battle as they traveled to Remsen on Friday.
And for a half, the game was close with G/T leading 12-6 at the break.
But the Knights outscored their hosts 28-0 in the second half to walk away with a 40-6 victory.
Quarterback Cody Dyhrkopp led the attack on this night as he rushed 17 times for 156 yards including a 38-yard run midway through the third quarter. He also completed three of eight passes for 28 yards.
Although Drew Skattebo had just 3 yards on 14 carries,he led the team in scores with three touchdowns.
He opened the scoring with a 6-0 yard in the first period. Remsen-Union answered with a 43-yard run as the score was tied 6-6.
But that didn’t last long as Nate Howard returned the kickoff 70 yards.
The teams fought to a stalemate the rest of the half before Dyhrkopp’s score with 5:34 in the third quarter.
Skattebo scored on a 5-yard run and added the two-point conversion as G/T led 26-6 to start the fourth quarter.
Howard had his second score on a 2-yard run with 11:56 left in the game. Howard added the two-point conversion two.
Skattebo had the final word with a 2-yard run with 4:42 left in the game.
Howard had 115 yards on 16 carries and also caught one pass for eight yards.
Skattebo had a catch for 11 yards and Beau Craig had one catch for 9 yards.
Defensively, Heath Marchand and Trent Lundgren each recovered a fumble. Eric Hatland snagged an interception.
The Knights (2-0) are home against H-LP next Friday.
