Laker men finish third at Reiver Tourney

COUNCIL BLUFFS – The Iowa Lakes men’s golf team appears to have the same problem it had a year ago-but it’s a good one.

The Lakers had two teams playing in the Reiver Fall Classic hosted by Iowa Western in Council Bluffs on Saturday.

Iowa Lakes top squad took third overall led by a first-place finish from Scott Benson with a 68 while teammate Jarvis Weber was tied for third with a 70.

However, Collin Hackett playing on the Laker JV, finished sixth overall with a 72.

The Laker’s top team rounded out its scoring with a 79 from A.J. Appel with a 79 while Scott Kremer and Jimmy Geelan each carded 81s.

On the second squad, Nathan Spoo also shot a solid round with an 80.

Heath Brown, Adam Oster and Davis Jacobson each shot 86s.

Iowa Western won its tournament with a 290 followed by Wayne State College with 294 and Iowa Lakes with 298.

Iowa Western’s second team was fourth with a 306 followed by Central Community College with 310, North Iowa Area Community College with 320, Iowa Lakes JV with 324, Iowa Central with 341 and NIACC JV with 350.

Women’s golf

The Iowa Lakes women’s golf team finished seventh overall with a 388.

Lauren Hartman finished 23rd with a 91 while Nikki Nielsen was 27th with a 94. Macy Milburn finished 39th with a 100 and Meaghan Schmidt had a 103.

Non-counting score was a 116 from Ashley Miller.

Kelsey Osborne, playing as an individual, shot a 96.

The Iowa Lakes golf teams travel to the Minnesota Co-Ed Invite on Sept. 18-19.
