Spirit Lake sweeps Generals
SPIRIT LAKE – The Spirit Lake volleyball team improved to 4-2 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Sibley-Ocheyedan on Tuesday.
“Everyone played hard tonight. We played some long volleys which was great to see,” said Spirit Lake coach Rachel Berkland. “It was some exciting volleyball with the scores being close. The team has to work on not letting their opponents back into the game but it’s a nice win for us going into our weekend tournament.”
Game scores were 25-21, 26-24, 25-17.
Sara Martinson led the Indian attack with seven kills while Regan Sieperda had four kills.
Serving, Whitney Berkland was 19-of-21 with six aces, Alex Horsman was 9-of-11 and Chelsie Stettnichs was 10-of-10.
Martinson and Stettnichs led the front line defense with three blocks apiece.
Caila Jones had a team-high 26 digs and Stettnichs had 14.
Berkland had six set assists and Horsman had four set assists.
Spirit Lake hosts its tournament on Saturday.
