Tonderum breaks rushing record in romp over WB-M

ARMSTRONG – Armstrong-Ringsted opened up a 39-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 53-14 victory over visiting West Bend-Mallard in the Class 8-Man District 2 opener.

According to coach Robert Zotz, senior running back Tyler Tonderum broke the all-time 8-Man rushing record with his 208-yard effort.

“The boys played very hard on all levels,” said Zotz.

Tonderum scored six times on the night including runs of 24 and 47 in the first quarter and 54 and 43 in the second quarter. The 43-yard TD run broke the record.

He then caught a 40-yard pass from Spencer Clausen in the third quarter and then had a 13-yard run in the final frame.

Other scoring plays included a 1-yard run in the first quarter by Clausen and an 18-yard pass from Clausen to Craig Tigges in the second quarter.

Clausen was 5-7 passing in the game for 130 yards.

Tonderum earned his 208 yards on just 11 carries. Clausen had 10 yards on 52 carries. Also Dakota Oderman carried the ball four times for 15 yards.

Travis Hantelman caught two passes for 49 yards, Oderman had one catch for 23 yards and Tigges had one catch for 18 yards.

Hantelman and Tigges led the defense with 12 tackles apiece while Odermann and Tonderum had 11 each.

Tigges had three sacks and Clausen had an interception.

A-R (3-0, 1-0) is on the road next Friday against Twin River Valley.
