Laker soccer evens league record

SPENCER – The Iowa Lakes men’s soccer team evened its Region XI record at 2-2 with a 4-3 win over Iowa Western on Tuesday.

“It was a really good win for us over Iowa Western Community College,” said Iowa Lakes coach Kevin Farley. “I think the guys are progressing at a steady pace and it was nice for them to get a win to help to show them that they are progressing. Matt Broomhall played very solid in goal for us and kept us in the game. I am very proud of them.”

Iowa Lakes’ Scott Pruitt scored the only goal in the first half with the ball crossing the goal in the fourth minute.

Iowa Western followed with two quick goals in the second half followed by two from Iowa Lakes’ Willy Kappe.

After Iowa Western’s Foli Amazio tied the game at 3-3 in the 70th minute, Alex Toay put the Lakers ahead for good with a score in the 71st minute.

Iowa Western had 12 shots on goal compared to just eight for the Lakers.

However Iowa Lakes had 11 saves, all by Broomhall.

Iowa Lakes (4-2 overall) travels to Waterloo to take on Hawkeye Community College on Friday.
