Spirit Lake cross country runs at Storm Lake

STORM LAKE – The Spirit Lake cross country teams continued to flex their muscles at the Storm Lake Invitational, Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The girls took first in the meet by 28 points over second place finisher Algona.

McKenzie Dziedzic led the way for the 10th-ranked Indians with a second-place finish in 16 minutes, 23 seconds.

Briana Brunsvold followed closely behind for a third-place finish in 16:32.

KJ Veldman placed fifth in a time of 16:42.

Mary Brown placed 11th in 16:55.

Chelsea Parks and Liz Skogerboe took 20th and 45th-place respectively.

In the third meeting between the top-rated Indians in Class 2A and top-rated Algona in 3A, the Bulldogs edged Spirit Lake by four points, 42 to 46.

Alec Baldwin led the boys with a third-place finish in 16:12.

Keith Byers followed in fourth with a time of 16:28.

Brandon Griffin, Will Norris and Mitch O’Neill packed well and placed 12th, 13th and 14th, respectively.

Kenan McQueen took 37th and Daniel Stover placed 47th for the Indians.

Up next for Spirit Lake is the Sheldon Invitational, Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 4:30 p.m.
