MARSHALLTOWN – Sometimes all that’s required for success is a little extra effort.

After struggling with Region XI Ellsworth on Monday (the Lakers needed five games before winning), the Iowa Lakes volleyball team swept Marshalltown 3-0 by identical game scores of 25-20.

“We played a little hard and were doing more things correctly,” said Iowa Lakes coach Scott Tschetter.

The coach also said he made a change in the middle with 6-2 Danqi Li taking a spot.

“We a got a little offense from that position and that loosened things up defensively on the other side of the net,” said Tschetter.

Offensively, the Lakers had around 50 kills, but there’s still room for improvement.

“We’re still making mistakes we shouldn’t,” Tschetter said.

In the first game, he said the Lakers had four service errors, five blocking errors and four hitting errors.

“That’s 13 points we gave them,” he said.

Yawen Xiao continued her role as the attack leader with 19 kills. Danika Stindtman contributed 12 kills. Breanna Gourley had 41 assists.

Defensively, Stindtman had 12 digs.

Xiao Stindtman and Racheal Nelson each had two ace serves.

Iowa Lakes (6-9, 2-0) travels to Mason City Monday to take on North Iowa Area Community College.
