Peters, TRV are next for A-R

ARMSTRONG – After three weeks, the Armstrong-Ringsted football team is where most fans probably expected them at 3-0.

The Mustangs are coming off a 53-14 win over West Bend-Mallard and have scored at least 50 points in each victory.

Senior Tyler Tonderum broke the 8-man rushing record last week and will obviously continue to build on that.

But Tonderum currently isn’t the leading rusher in District 2. His 452 yards is second to Levi Peters’ 475 yards.

The Mustangs will see Peters tonight as they travel to Bode to take on Twin River Valley.

The Thunder haven’t had the same success as the Mustangs. TRV (1-2) is perfect in district play though after a 60-34 win over Harris-Lake Park last week.

A-R coach Robert Zotz said Peters is one of two things the Thunder have going for them.

The other is that it’s homecoming week at TRV.

“We will have to watch for him. He’s a good running back and linebacker,” said Zotz of Peters.

Meanwhile the Mustangs have been progressing each week.

Zotz said he though his team had a great preseason, but improvement is showing.

“Offensively we’re making better reads in the passing game,” he said. “The effort up front in blocking and just catching the ball is there too.

“Defensively, we’re getting more aggressive in the front line. Our special teams our doing well. We have a great kicker and he keeps doing what he’s doing.”

While A-R has won relatively easy thus far, Zotz said they still find different ways to motivate the team.

“But a lot of time we don’t have to motivate them because they just love playing and love the game,” he said.
