Girls swim team splits second dual of season
Two team records set
EMMETSBURG – The Algona(Estherville Lincoln Central/Emmetsburg) girls swim team split a double dual on Thursday night at their home meet at the wellness Center in Emmetsburg. they dropped the meet to Spencer and beat Charles City.
“It was a good night for the girls and the team,” said Coach Jim Fisher. “We have a very young team but the freshman are really stepping up and contributing on relays and individual events. We had 11 season bests tonight and set two team records. The 200 freestyle relay team set a record and placed second overall and the 400 free relay team also finished second overall.”
The team consists of Hannah Priest, Jenni Weaver Kendall Bosch and Hanna Degen anchoring the record setting team.
Against Charles City first places went to Algona in every event that we swam.
Some of the individual best times included MacKenzie Wilson taking off 6 seconds in the 100 fly and team B in the 400 free relay took off 11 seconds in time.
Kendall Bosch set a team record in the 200 individual medley for the second straight meet.
The 200 medley and 400 free relays improved as did Amber Schacherer in the 200 free Hanna Degen in the 50 free, Nicole Person in the 100 back stroke, team b in the 200 free relay and Liz Humble in the 100 breast stroke.
The team also got a boost from Nicole Kenne in the 200 free with her placing fourth overall and second against Charles City.
“Those are the important points when you have people getting second instead of third,” said Fisher. “We also did better against Spencer as our girls were pushing their swimmers all night long. The score may not show it but the times do.
“The girls have two goals for the year and that is to improve every time and split all the dual meets they swim in.”
Algona (2-2) travels to the Charles City Invite today.
