Lakers run in big meet
AMES – The Iowa Lakes cross country teams headed to Ames to compete in the Iowa Intercollegiate meet on Saturday.
The meet was open to any college in Iowa and there were over ten colleges competing.
The men were led by Bart Zimmer’s 65th-place finish in 31 minutes, 12 seconds.
Brandon Minear followed just behind Zimmer in 66th-place with a time of 31:13.
“The men’s team did a good job of staying close together,” said Iowa Lakes coach Molly Struve. “Brandon Minear had an excellent race and was able to finish right alongside Bart. He dropped his time from the last two meets and ran a very smart race.”
Brittany Ross led the women’s team with a 51st-place finish in 22 minutes, 2 seconds.
Alyssa Eisenbacher took 75th place in 23:52.
“Alyssa ran a great race for our women’s team,” said Struve. “She took off over a minute from the previous meet and moved up a little closer to Brittany. She has been training really hard in practice and it showed in her performance. Brittany had a good time, but she needs to keep dropping it from meet to meet.”
The Lakers next meet is Saturday, hosted by Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.
