Lakers take care of Trojans

MASON CITY – The Iowa Lakes volleyball team continued its run through its league competition with a 3-0 win over North Iowa Area Community College on Monday.

The Lakers are now 3-0 in league play after the 26-24, 25-22, 25-14 win over the Trojans.

Iowa Lakes coach Scott Tschetter said his team still has more to work on.

“In the first and second sets we get to a critical point, around 17 to 21 points, and they we just don’t go,” he said. “We had a six-to-eight-point lead and didn’t hold them.”

Tschetter said the Lakers did better in the third game, coming up with a block or kill that was needed.

Yawen Xiao led the Laker attack with 15 kills while Danika Stindtman had nine.

The Lakers did well defensively at the net as Danqi Yi had four blocks and Racheal Nelson and Breanna Gourley each had three.

Gourley had 30 set assists.

Also Xiao had 12 digs and Leah Flaharty had nine. Nelson had two ace serves.

Iowa Lakes (7-9) travels to the Johnson County Tournament this Friday and Saturday before returning home against Iowa Central on Monday.
