Bittersweet weekend

The Iowa Lakes volleyball team had a good first day and a bad second in posting a 2-2 record at the Iowa Western Tournament this past weekend.

On Friday, the Lakers defeeated Longview 3-1 by scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-21 and then beat Butler County College 29-27, 25-20, 25-21.

Yawen Xiao had 20 kills in the first match and 26 in the second to lead the Lakers. Danika Stindtman had 11 kills in each match.

Breanna Gourley had 38 set-assists in each match.

On Saturday, the Lakers lost 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 to New Mexico Military Instute and then 25-23, 25-14, 25-16 to Jefferson.

Xiao again led the attack with 15 kills in the first match and 14 in the second.

Stindtman had seven kills eacn each match. Racheal Nelson had 11 kills with seven coming against New Mexico MIlitayr Institute.

Gourley had 29 assists in the first match and 32 in the second. Amy Novak had seven blocks and Nelson had six on Saturday. Also Xiao had 12 digs and Leah Flaharty had 11.

Iowa Lakes (12-13, 4-0) hosts North Iowa Area Community College on Wednesday.
