Knights earn key win against Chargers
LAURENS – A goal line stand in the closing minutes helped Graettinger/Terril preserve a 29-28 victor over Laurens-Marathon.
The Chargers were driving in the closing minutes and the Knights defense came up with the stop needed.
“We met some adversity in this game and our kids responded well,” said G/T coach Karlton Hector. “Not everything went our way, but they found a way to win. It was a great effort, and in a way, good for us to see how we responded in a tight ball game. Anytime you can win a close ball game like that you take it.”
The victory keeps the Knights tied for second in Class 8-Man District with Armstrong-Ringsted. Both teams have one loss in district behind with North Sentral Kossuth leading the district.
Friday, the Chargers and Knights were tied 8-8after one quarter witht Knights leading 21-14 at halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter and the Chargers won the fourth quarter 14-8,b ut not the game.
Nate Howard led the Knights as he rushed 24 times for 243 yards and three touchdowns.
Drew Skattebo had 87 yards on 12 carries and Cody Dyhrkopp ran the ball 14 times for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Dyhrkopp was 0-5 passing.
Eric Hatland converted one of two PAT kicks.
Hatland and Heath Marchand each had an interception.
G/T (5-1, 3-1) hosts West Bend-Mallard on Friday.
