Laker men place seventh at Grand View
DES MOINES – The Iowa Lakes cross country teams were in action Friday at the Grand View College Invite in Des Moines.
The Laker men placed seventh out of nine teams with a score of 228.
“The men’s team really stepped it up today. They placed seventh out of nine teams, which is a good accomplishment since there is only five of them,” said Iowa Lakes coach Molly Struve. “A team needs five runners to score, but usually has at least two pushers in case some of the members don’t do as well. Our guys all have to count, so they must all do well in order to place.”
Bart Zimmer led the team with a 24th place finish in 29 minutes, 46 seconds. Brandon Minear was close behind in 33rd in 30:24.
“Both had personal best times for the course, and close to personal best times for the season,” said Struve.
Jason Vogel finished 45th in 32:32, Mitchel Sparks was 57th in 33:27 and Brandon Mumm was 60th in 33:59.
“Jason, Mitch, and Brandon Mumm all ran smart races too,” said Struve. “They kept their mile splits close together and made up some team points during the last couple miles.”
The Laker women were without Brittany Ross who was sick.
Alyssa Eisenbacher finished 45h in 24:31 with Angela Pearson placing 55th in 27:47 and Tricia Hill was 60th in 32:46.
“Alyssa has still been dealing with some injuries, but managed to run a competitive time and finished fairly well,” said Struve. “Despite the weather, Angela and Tricia both managed to run season best times at this meet. Angela ran a career best time. She made up some time during her last mile and caught a few other runners that were in front of her.”
The Lakers travel to a meet hosted by Briar Cliff University at McCook Lake, S.D. on Saturday, Oct. 10.
