Knights pull away from Raiders, 40-3

By Staff | Oct 20, 2009

RUTHVEN – Graettinger/Terril turned a 14-3 first half lead into a 40-3 victory over Ruthven-Ayrshire on Friday.

“We came out a little flat in this game and it showed,” said G/T coach Karlton Hector. “The seniors did a good job of getting the team going at half time and everyone came out and responded well in the second half. As a coaching staff we are happy to come away with a win. Ruthven has some good size and used it to their advantage.”

Nate Howard rushed for 204 yards on eight carries with four touchdowns to lead the Nights.

Drew Skattebo carried the ball 10 times for 31 yards with one touchdown.

“We are really liking what we see from our line right now,” said Hector. “They are doing their assignments really well, Drew is running tough up the middle as well as being a great lead blocker for Nate , and Nate is putting up some great numbers.

“Those guys up front: Jesse Nissen, Michael Jensen, Taylor Harris, Beau Craig, Eric Hatland, and Colin Leiting deserve a lot of credit along with Drew and Nate for our offensive production.

“Don’t let me forget about Cody Dyhrkopp who is doing a great job running the offensive and getting the ball to our playmakers, and making plays himself when he needs to,” the coach said.

Dyhrkopp was 2-of-6 passing for 20 yards including a 9-yard touchdown pass to Colin Leiting.

Craig had the other catch for an 11-yard pickup.

On the point after kicks, Eric Hatland converted four of six attempts.

The Knights (7-1, 5-1) face Armstrong-Ringsted (7-1, 5-1) on Friday for second place in the district behind leader North Sentral Kossuth.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to play Armstrong this week and measure ourselves against a perennial powerhouse in 8-player football,” said Hector.
