Spirit Lake notches its second victory

SPIRIT LAKE – Turnovers proved key in Spirit Lake winning its second game of the season and romping 48-8 over Unity Christian on Friday.

The Indians recovered four fumbles, with Aric Waltz returning one 60 yards for a score. Waltz also had an interception.

Quarterback Mitch Peschon had his best night completing 5-of-16 passes for 105 yards with four of them going for touchdowns.

Drew Dau caught two touchdown passes for a total of 34 yards receiving. Kyle Heidebrink caught a 44-yard touchdown pass and Rick Wilson caught a 14-yard score.

Rick Maris caught the other pass of 13 yards. Maris also scored scored a touchdown on one of his three carries.

Nik Erickson also did well at the running back spot, rushing eight times for 74 and one score.

The Indians defense limited Unity Christian to 33 yards on the ground on 35 carries. Unity Christian had just 26 yards passing

Maris and Luke Kabelle led the defense with eight tackles apiece. Of those each had two for a loss.

The Indians had 11 tackles on the night that went for a loss. Erickson and Waltz each had two for a loss.

Spirit Lake (2-6 overall, 2-4 in the district) end the season at home versus Central Lyon/George Little Rock.
