Knights roll, earn rematch with Eagles
WOODBINE – Class 8-Man District 2 showed its dominance over District 1, winning all four substate matches on Wednesday.
Graettinger/Terril did its part, cruising to a 62-25 win over Woodbine.
“The kids really came ready to go and everyone played great-offensively and defensively,” said G/T coach Karlton Hector.
As he has all year, Nate Howard had the big yards, scoring six times including a 65-yard kickoff return in the third quarter.
Howard opened with a 75-yard run with 7:28 to go in the first quarter. Cody Dyhrkopp scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 15-yard run at the 3:35 mark.
Howard scored again before the end of the quarter on a 7-yard run with eight seconds on the clock.
In the second quarter, Howard opened with a 57-yard run.
Woodbine bounced back with the next two scores to cut the deficit to 27-12.
However Howard scored on runs of 55 and 26 with Drew Skattebo adding a 1-yard touchdown before halftime.
Eric Hatland connected on six-of-seven extra points as the Knights led 48-12 at the break.
With the continuous clock in the second half, the scoring pace closed.
Dyhrkopp scored on a 48-yard run followed by a score from Woodbine.
Howard answered that score his 65-yard kickoff return.
The hosts added a score in the fourth quarter for the final tally.
Howard had 252 yards on 11 carries. Skattebo carried the ball 19 times for 102 yards and Dyhrkopp had 65 yards on four carries.
“Nate broke the big runs and Drew chipped away,” said Hector.
Dyhrkopp was 1-of-3 passing with an interception and a 20-yard reception to Beau Craig.
The Knights earn a rematch with North Sentral Kossuth, who was a 54-34 winner over Remsen-Union. The Eagles won 38-22 in the teams’ first meeting.
