How did we get so lucky?

To say the 8-man playoffs, to this point, have been spectacular would be an understatement. Tremendous, sensational, unbelievable – insert whatever adjective you want, it still doesn’t do any justice.

After Graettinger/Terril shocked the state with a 35-22 win over the previously unbeaten, 8-man No. 2 ranked North Sentral Kossuth Eagles in Monday’s semifinal round, we will get to witness the match-up everyone in the area has been dreaming about.

At every sports fan’s heart, they want to see the best teams play each other on the biggest stage possible. This Friday night, our dreams will come true in our own backyards as Armstrong-Ringsted travels to face Graettinger/Terril in 8-man quarterfinal action.

In their previous meeting this year, just two short weeks ago, the Mustangs emerged victorious over the Knights with a 39-21 victory and G/T, as they did against NSK, will be looking for redemption.

Story lines abound for this match-up. The two teams will battle it out once again for area bragging rights. The experienced, two-time state runners-up versus the up-and-comers with a chip on their shoulder.

Two of the top running backs in the state in A-R’s Tyler Tonderum and G/T’s Nathan Howard will pit their skills against one another, this time with a trip to the UNI-Dome on the line. Will A-R be able to get past this next hurdle and finally capture that elusive state title? The list goes on and on.

I for one couldn’t be more excited, so I will pose my question once again. How did we get so lucky?
