AMES – Estherville Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted’s top two seniors ran one more cross country race this past Saturday.

Traci Speltz and Brooke Egeland both competed in the Iowa Senior Girl All-Star Meet hosted by Iowa State University.

The girls ran a 1,000 kilometers more than they’re used to in regular meets, competing in a 5K instead of a 4K event.

Seventy-nine runners completed the race with Egeland finishing 17th in 21 minutes, 30 seconds. Speltz finished 29th in 22:22.

“It was fun to run another race after the season was over,” said Speltz. “The course was really nice at Iowa State.

“It was an honor to be down there and run with the rest of the seniors,” said Egeland.

The two ELCAR runners were part of the Northwest team which finished third overall.

Mary Kenne of West Des Moines Valley won the event in 19:08. She was three runners to finish the event in under 20 minutes.
