Comeback kid

ANKENY – Iowa Lakes freshman golfer Macy Milburn shaved nine strokes from her first round of the region XI tournament to finish in a tie for ninth place and qualify for the 2010 NJCAA National Golf Tournament to be held in Daytona Beach, Fla. on May 15-18.

A former Estherville Lincoln Central stand out, Milburn carded a 95 on Friday placing her in the middle of the pack before tearing through the course with an 86 on day two for a total score of 181, tying her with Mandy Kohlhaas of Des Moines Area CC for ninth place.

DMACC won the tournament with a score of 675.

They were followed by Iowa Western with 708, Iowa Lakes 757, North Iowa Area CC 773, Iowa Central 777 and Ellsworth 992.

Nikki Nielsen finished second on the team, carding a 188 for Iowa Lakes. She was followed by Kelsey Osborne and Lauren Hartman with 194 each and Meaghan Schmidt with a 201.

Amanda Davidson of DMACC won the tournament with a score of 157. Teammate Madi Fischels was runner-up with a 166.

Iowa Western qualified four for nationals. DMACC had three while Iowa Lakes, NIACC and Iowa Central each had one golfer qualify.
