Keeler earns first win
LEMARS – Josh Keeler picked up the lone victory for the Estherville Lincoln Central boys tennis team in LeMars on Tuesday.
Keller defeated Josh Meridith 6-3-64.
I thought Josh did a nice job against a quality opponent to pick up the only win of the night,” said ELC coach Chris Koenck. “He was really able to execute his shots well and placed the ball nicely. He executed his game plan the best that I have seen so far. I know he felt good picking up his first varsity win.”
The Bulldogs won the meet 8-1.
In other singles matches, Nate Jensen lost 6-1, 6-1 to Mike Ahlers; Matt Hansen lost 6-4, 6-2 to Brian Kehm; Brad Olsen lost 6-3, 6-1 to Kent Hasselquist; Cody Jackson lost 6-1, 6-2 to Keegan Driggs and Joel Kazmerzak lost 6-1, 6-0 to Eric Havey.
in doubles play, Jensen and Olsen lost 10-2 to Kehm and Ahlers; Keller and Jackson lost 10-0 to Meridith and Hasselquist and Hansen and Kazmerzak lost 10-3 to Driggs and Havey.
“We have a lot of work to do in th next week to prepare for our upcoming district tournament,” said Koenck. “We have to stay focused and really practice hard to fine tune some things in order to play our best tennis on that day.”
In junior varsity action, LeMars swept ELC 9-0.
In singles, Riley Edwards lost 8-1; Seth Shatto lost 8-2; Steve Subbert lost 8-0, Taylor Fernholz lost 8-1; Neil Schmaus lost 8-4 and Anselmo Salazar lost 8-0.
In doubles, Edwards and Shatto lost 8-1; Schmaus and Subbert lost 8-1 and Fernholz and Salazar lost 8-4.
