Mustangs unable to round up Mavericks

ARMSTRONG – The Armstrong-Ringsted boys track team put everything on the line, but Clay Central-Everly was just too deep.

The Mavericks won the 2010 Cornbelt Conference Meet Tuesday with 176 points. A-R finish second with 148.

West Bend-Mallard/Twin River Valley was a distance third with 68 points followed by North Sentral Kossuth with 65, Corwith-Wesley-Luverne with 58, Ventura with 21 and Ruthven-Ayrshire with 13.

“They just had too much depth and talent,” said A-R coach Robert Zotz of CCE. “However, we showed lots of guts and played very hard, losing to one team and beating five others isn’t too bad.”

The Mustangs had five first-place finishes.

Tyler Tonderum had two of them as he won the 11-meter dash in 11.43 seconds and the 200 in 23.06 seconds. He and Travis Hantelman finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash with Hantelman clocking in at 52.79 followed by Tonderum in 53.64.

Craig Tigges also had a part in two top finishes as he won the discus with a toss of 143 feet, 9 1/2 inches and ran the second leg of the winning 4×800-meter relay team which also included Kevin Luke, Evan Hagebock and Chris Burt. Their time was 9:11.69.

A-R had several more second-place finishes.

Ethan Eisenbacher was second in the110-meter high hurdles in 16.15 seconds while Dylan Moore was fifth in 17.90.

The shuttle hurdle team of Moore, Hagebock, Nick Larsen and Eisenbacher was second in 1:08.7.

Hantelman was second in the high jump at 6 feet 3 inches while Min Chang placed fifth at 5 feet, 2 inches.

Hantelman was second in the 800-meter run in2:8.42 with Tigges third in 2:13.87.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Spencer Clausen, Tonderum, Dakota Oderman and Eisenbacher was second in 47.27 seconds.

Placing third was the 4×200-meter relay team of Feddersen, Clausen, Bryson Rezac and Oderman in 1:42.98.

Feddersen was third in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, one-quarter inch. The 4×400-meter relay tea was third in 4:04.80 with Burt, Hagebock, Moore and Luke.

Feddersen placed fourth in both the 100 and 200 races with times of 12.03 and 24.20 seconds, respectively.

Tigges finished fourth in the 1600-meter run in 5:20.

Hantelman placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 39 feet, 8 inches. Rezac was sixth with a throw of 36 feet, 9 inches and he also was sixth in the discus with a throw of 74 feet, 10 1/4 inches.

Eisenbacher was fourth in the 400-meter low hurdles in 1:03.21.
