SLP boys win rain-shortened meet

STORM LAKE – The Spirit Lake Park boys track team won the rain-shortened Storm Lake Tornado Relays with 116 points on Tuesday.

Kyle Heidebrink earned two of the team’s five first-place finishes. The senior won the 400-meter hurdles in 56.96 seconds and the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.06 seconds. He also took second in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 5 1/2 inches and anchored the second-place shuttle hurdle team of Rick Wilson, Aric Waltz and DJ Smith which finished in 1:02.10.

Dalton Kelley won the discus with a toss of 148 feet, 11 inches while Keith Byers won the 3200-meter run in 10:20.19 and Alec Baldwin won the 1600-meter run in 4:31.76.

Will Norris competed in both long-distance events taking second in the 3200 in 10:21.69 and third in the 1600 in 4:50.68.

Kayne Feldick placed second in the 400-meter dash in 52.35 seconds and luke Kabele was second in the 200-meter dash in 23.42 seconds.

Kabele also finished third in the 400-meter dash in 52.68 seconds.

Rick Wilson placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.03 seconds and the 4×200-meter relay team of Waltz, Kevin Martinson, Cody Poock and Mike Sheridan was third in 1:37.53.

Placing fourth was the 4×800-meter relay team of Alec Baldwin, Rick Maris, Brandon Griffin and Adam Dau.
