Field of dreams

ESTHERVILLE – The Iowa Lakes softball team’s dream season continues as the Lakers advanced to the NJCAA National Championship with two wins over Central Community College in the district tournament on Thursday, 6-0 and 17-0, tying the school record for most wins in a single season with 57.

The Lakers outhit their opponents 37-8 in the two games combined and Julia Nealer picked up both victories on the mound, increasing her season total to 29.

In game one, Christy Cabrera was 4-4 with an RBI, Annie Tabone was 2-4 with an RBI, Kristen Heimerl was 2-3 and Morgan Davis was also 2-3.

In game two, Cabrera was a beast going 4-5 with seven RBIs, two coming on a homerun in the second and four coming on a grand slam in the third.

Tabone was 2-5, Heiberger was 2-4 with three RBIs and a solo shot, Christianne Saiz was 3-4 with two RBIs and a two-run homer, Pricilla Quintana was 2-4, Heimerl was 3-3, Davis was 2-4 with a two-run homer and Melissa Lenzi was 3-3 with an RBI.

The Lakers will travel to Normal, Ill., May 20-22, for the 2010 NJCAA National Tournament.
