ELC sweeps Cherokee
The Estherville Lincoln Central girls team gained back a little confidence by sweeping visiting Cherokee 9-0 on Monday.
“Hopefully this will give us some confidence going into Thursday,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner.
The Midgettes travel to Spencer for the individual regional tennis meet.
In singles play, ELC’s top layer, Lexie Hash had the toughest match of the night as she defeated Demi Dunn 11-10, (9-7).
“Lexie was down 6-2 in the tiebreaker and came back,” said Kirchner.
ELC had little trouble in the other singles matches.
Erin Olson won 10-2 over Denise Freed; Kaylene Vos won 10-0 over Amanda Kohn; Emily Swalve won 10-0 over Sarah Reuhle; Kelsie McCauley won 10-5 over Hilary Wilkie and Morgan Kirchner won 10-1 over Samm Miller.
In doubles, Olson and Vos won 10-3 over Dunn and Kohn. Hash and McCauley followed with a 10-3 win over Freed and Reuhle.
In the third doubles match, Liz Olson and Holly Enerson were pulled up from the junior varsity. Enerson, a senior playing her first varsity match, helped the duo win 10-6 over Wilke and Miller.
ELC’s JV also won easily, 7-2.
In singles, Liz Olson won 8-1, Enerson won 8-2; Allison Hevern won 8-2; Kaylee Schoon won 8-1, Tessa Bernholtz won 8-4 and Jessica Lepird won 8-1.
Six new players were brought up to play JV doubles.
Carol Daniels and Amanda Heinrichs won 8-4; Kelly Zebedee and Emily Chrestiansen lost 9-7 and Megan Rogers and McKenzie Wilson lost 8-1.
In exhibition matches, Morgan Schubert and Emily Lair won 6-2; Janae Howing and Megan McClurg lost 8-7 and Cheyanne Lepird and Destiny Osberg lost 6-1.
