SLP wins first ever district crown
While actor Alec Baldwin is no stranger to the big stage, Spirit Lake Park distance runner Alec Baldwin – no relation – took his turn in the spotlight at the 3A District Track Meet on Friday, winning three events to lead the SLP boys track team to its first ever district championship in school history.
Baldwin took titles in the 3200, 1600 and 800-meter runs in times of 10 minutes, 12.84 seconds, 4:39.35 and 1:57.26, respectively.
Kyle Heidebrink also earned a championship for the Indians in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.96 seconds and took second in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.52 seconds and third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 4 inches.
Heidebirnk also joined Aric Waltz, DJ Smith and Rick Wilson in the shuttle hurdle relay team that took second in 59.82 seconds.
Also qualifying for state was the 4×400-meter and medley relay teams of Waltz, Luke Kabele, Kevin Martinson and Kayne Feldick with second place times of 3:25.53 and 3:38.21, respectively.
Dalton Kelley qualified with a third place finish in the discus with a throw of 141 feet, 9 inches and Will Norris placed third in the 3200-meter run in 10:21.04.
