Spirit Lake Park runners qualify for state

LEMARS – Twelve points seperated the top six teams at the district meet in LeMars on Friday, however, the Spirit Lake Park girls track team got the short end of the stick, finishing sixth with 107 total points.

Storm Lake won with 119 and were followed by Lemars with 116, MOC Floyd Valley and Spencer with 115, Heelan 111, SLP and Sergeant Bluff-Luton 42.

The Indians qualified nine events for state and were led by senior sprinter Megan Lawler who placed first in both the 100- and 200-meter dash in 12.43 and 26.06 seconds, respectively.

Lawler also joined the 4×200-meter and sprint medley relay teams of Alex Horsman, Caila Jones and Lindsey Arneson that qualified with times of 1:51.61 and 1:57.23, respectively.

McKenzie Dziedzic was also named district champion for her effort in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 2.49 seconds and took second in the 1500-meter run in 5:13.84.

The distance medley relay team of Arneson, Horsman, Dziedzic and Jessica Wallace qualified in third place with a time of 4:31.03 and Briana Brunsvold also qualified in third place in the 3000-meter run in 11:28.73.
