Bulldogs bash morose Midgets

ALGONA – It doesn’t take much analysis to figure out why the Estherville Lincoln Central baseball team is struggling – they simply can’t find anyone who can throw strikes.

Midget pitchers walked 11 Bulldog batters in a 7-0 loss on Friday night and to make matters worse, ELC totaled five errors on the night and collected just two hits. That kind of a line is not going to win ball games.

Despite their struggles, the Midgets were able to keep the game close for the majority of the contest, before a three-run sixth inning by the Bulldogs put it out of reach.

Cody Prather took the mound to start the game for ELC and struggled to keep the ball in the strike zone. His fast ball repeatedly sailed high and his offspeed pitches often kicked up sand on their way to the backstop.

He made it 5 2/3 innings, walking seven batters and giving up four runs before being pulled in favor of Jeremy Hunt. However, Hunt didn’t provide the Midgets with much relief at all as 10 of his first 12 pitches missed the plate and the hard-throwing righty never found his command.

Offensively, ELC managed only two hits off Algona’s Brady Collison

The Midgets fall to 2-3 on the season following their loss to Algona and will try to rebound as they host MOC-Floyd Valley on Tuesday.
