LUVERNE – The Graettinger/Terril softball team picked up a pair of wins against Corwith-Wesley-Luverne on Wednesday.

The Knights didn’t have their seniors in the lineup in the first game.

They built a 4-0 lead and had one bad inning as the Panthers tied the game.

But G-T came back for a 6-5 victory.

Brooke Hoffman was 2-3 at the plate while Maddie Schany was 1-3 and Morgan Mortenson and Lindsay Flaharty each went 1-4.

Alyssa Hoffman pitched six innings, giving up six hits and five runs (three earned) with two strikeouts. Brooke Hoffman closed out the game, facing four batters and giving up one hit.

The seniors returned to the lineup and were helped by a grand slam home run by Tasha Neilson in the 13-8 victory.

In the third inning, Flaharty hit a one-out single up the middle followed by a bloop single from Dakota Hovinga and another single by Nikki Brown to load the bases. Neilson then belted the ball over the left-field fence.

Flaharty had the hot bat though, going 3-5. Hovinga was 2-5 and Brooke Hoffman was 2-4 as the Knights pounded out 13 hits.

Brooke Hoffman went the distance on the mound. She gave up nine hits and eight runs, but only two were earned runs as the Knights committed four errors. Hoffman also struck out seven, walked four and had three wild pitches.

G-T returns to action Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Estherville Lincoln Central Softball Classic against the host Midgettes.
