ELC upsets Cherokee

CHEROKEE – The Estherville Lincoln Central baseball team evidently likes extra innings.

After beating LeMars in nine innings on Wednesday, the Midgets came back with a two-run eighth inning againt Cherokee to pull out a 4-2 win over the Braves on Friday.

ELC needed a solo home run by Jake Lange in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 2-2.

In the eight inning, Dan Jones hit a ball to center field that was mis-played as he advanced to second. Cody Prather hit the ball up the right field line to score the go-ahead run. A Cherokee error and another hit allowed ELC to put on an insurance run.

Starting pitcher Jeremy Hunt then shut the door in the bottom of the eighth inning, striking out the side.

Hunt and Cherokee ace Cody Ege both struck out 15 batters on the night.

However Ege gave up a few more walks and hit batters.

ELC scored its first run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Lutz.

Ege helped his cause with a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth to put the Braves on top.

ELC returns to action this weekend at the Humboldt Tournament.
