G/T rallies in seventh inning against Pioneers
TERRIL – The Graettinger-Terril Softball Team rallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring three run in the bottom of the seventh to beat in-county rival Okoboji on Tuesday.
“The first six innings, we hit the ball well, but right at them,” said G-T coach Stephanie Hanson.
After giving up an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning, the Knights scored three runs with the game ending on a two-run line drive between the Okoboji shortstop and third baseman by Dakota Hovinga.
The inning started with back-to-back singles by Morgan Matthews and Nikki Brown with Lindsay Flaharty reaching on a fielder’s choice and bringing home Matthews on the play. Hailley Nelson singled to load the bases setting up Hovinga’s winning hit.
“Any time you can beat Okoboji, it’s a good game,” said G-T coach Stephanie Hanson.
Alyssa Hoffman started on the mound for the Knights and while she didn’t record any strikeouts, Hanson said Hoffman’s curve was working well on the corners. Hoffman only gave up two walks and three hits.
Hanson also mixed up the lineup, putting eighth-grader Brooke Hoffman at shortstop.
“She did an excellent job,” said Hanson.
G-T (3-2) is on the road against Armstrong-Ringsted today.
