GRAETTINGER – Consistency was the difference in Wednesday’s affair between the Armstrong-Ringsted and Graettinger/Terril baseball teams. While the Mustangs were able to consistently find ways to score, the Knights’ scoring came in spurts.

The Mustangs walked just two batters, while the Knights walked six and hit four and A-R used its consistent play to generate a 12-7 victory.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a three-run second inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Tyler Tonderum to the gap in right-center.

A-R added another run in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-0, before the Knights’ third baseman Cody Dyhrkopp jumpstarted a three-run inning with a booming triple deep to center field. Singles by Ryan Sikora and Mark Geelan scored two runs, while an error by Mustang second baseman Evan Hagebock scored the third to cut A-R’s lead to one run.

However, the Mustangs scored eight runs in the final four innings to take a commanding 12-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

A-R coach Ryan Luedtke made the decision to pull starter Brett Thackery in favor of Tonderum in the seventh and after getting the first batter to ground out to second, struggled to get outs. Tonderum gave up three hits, walked two batters and surrendered three runs before getting the final two batters to ground out to end the game.

A-R was led by Tonderum at the plate. The senior was 2-4 on the night with three RBIs, three runs scored and four stolen bases.

Spencer Clausen was also 2-4 with two runs scored while Craig Tigges and Hagebock were each 1-3.

Tyler Fedderson was 1-4 and Thackery was 0-2 with two RBIs.

Thackery pitched six innings, earning the win for A-R. He gave up nine hits, three earned runs and struck out two while walking none.

The Knights were led by Mark Geelan who was 3-4 at the plate. He also pitched 5 2/3 innings, struck out eight, walked four batters and gave up seven hits.

Ryan Sikora was 1-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Taylor Harris was 2-4 with two doubles, Trevin Enerson was 1-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Mitch Girres and Dyhrkopp were each 1-3 while Blaze Alesch and Tyler Dalen were 1-4.

A-R returns to action tonight at Buffalo Center and G/T will resume play Friday as they host Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka.
