Midgette bats go cold against HWC Wolfpack
One night after hitting the stuffing out of the ball against Cherokee, the Estherville Lincoln Central bats struggled against Western Christian on Thursday.
The difference in the pitching duel turned out to be the lone error on the night. Unfortunately it was the Midgettes’ mistake.
Scoreless after 5 innings, the Wolfpack had a runner reach base in the bottom of the sixth. After a couple bunts, the runner was on third base and a bloop single scored the lone run.
Western Christian had just four hits off ELC starter, Kendall Bosch, who struck out five and walked none.
However, ELC only had three hits on the night-one apiece by Morgan Schichtl, Sadie Winter and Brooke Egeland.
“They’re pitcher threw outside on us and we also didn’t wait on her change-up,” said ELC coach Megan Anderson.
Anderson said ELC a runner in scoring position in each of the last three innings, but couldn’t come up with the hit.
ELC (12-6) is at the Spencer Tournament today and Saturday.
The Midgettes play Sioux City West at 2 p.m. today and North Sentral Kossuth at 5:30 p.m.
In junior varsity action, ELC beat Western Christian 14-7 to improve to 10-3 on the season. All seven Wolfpack runs were unearned.
Melissa Gjerde pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four runs on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
Ashton Reisner closed out the game giving up three runs on two hits with one walk.
At the plate, Macy Dahl was 3-4 with three runs and an RBI. Kristen King was 2-3 with two runs and Allie Sievert was 1-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs.
