ELC’s Hansen throws a no-no
ESTHERVILLE – Estherville Lincoln Central freshman Evan Hansen threw a no-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader against Storm Lake on Tuesday, winning by score of 10-0. ELC swept the Tornadoes with a 7-6 victory in game two.
Hansen pitched four innings, struck out five batters and was two walks away from a perfect game.
“He was pretty excited, we all were excited,” said ELC coach Bryan Rezac. “We didn’t say anything about it until it was over.”
Offensively, ELC was led by Alec Wycoff, Billy Snyder and Corey Reeves, who each went 2-3 at the plate and combined for four RBI.
Tyler Swanson added a double and an RBI and Bryce Hansen also had an RBI for the Midgets.
In stark contrast to the dominant game one performance, ELC and Storm Lake remained tied 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Midgets’ Chris Seylar knocked a walk-off RBI single over the first baseman’s head.
At the plate Seylar and Wycoff each recorded a hit and an RBI while Tim Greving, Riley Strenge, Justin Frederich and Blake Gjerde each added an RBI.
